    1. Holy cow! Minnie has been so elusive to me! I haven't been able to find anything about her. I hope you'll get in touch so we can share information. Maybe I have some photos of her that we can identify. I'm very happy to share copies with family members. Also, I just got a copy of what I believe to be Minnie's birth record. Would be pleased to share that with you as well. Thanks for writing!

  3. Hi Liz,
Just found your blog. My 3rd GG is Alexander Dixon born in Elizabeth in 1812. Most likely a brother or cousin to John 1807. I have John 1838 or 1843 m. Isabella Porter as a son of Alexander on my tree. My grandfather always told us that Alexander's wife Hannah was from the Lenni Lenape tribe but we've found no evidence. I'd love to figure out how we're related.

    1. Hi KMD,
Thanks for stopping by, and for introducing yourself. It's always nice to meet cousins. I'm sure we are connected somehow, but haven't yet done enough with John Dixon (1807) to find the link. I'm pretty certain that John (1807) is the father of John (1838, who married Isabella Porter). I've got a couple of documents that indicate that. So I'm guessing that Alexander is, as you say, a brother or cousin to the 1807 John.

I'm in the process of compiling very basic family trees for all of the Dixons in Elizabeth just to try to sort this out. I add them as I come across them. So far I've gone through all of the city directories, starting at 1860 forward, and have been adding census info as I come across it. I have a spreadsheet. It's big. LOL! It's starting to make slightly more sense. I've identified three family groups aside from my own, but I've got two Alexanders, one b. c. 1811, married to Hannah, and one b. 1844 married to Sarah Ann. I'm guessing that the younger Alexander is the son of the older, but having trouble squaring away birth dates. Maybe you can help with that?

I would be delighted to share information and sources with you, but maybe we can continue that off-blog. If you like, e-mail me at rootedinelizabeth@gmail.com.

    2. P.S. I have also heard that somewhere in the Dixon line there is Native American ancestry. My DNA test showed none of it, and I haven't seen any other documentation of it anywhere.
